Getting started

Export your phone contacts to a file

Save your phone's contacts as a file, then import it into Sendmint. Only import people who agreed to get WhatsApp messages from your business.

  1. Step 1: On Android: export a .vcf file

Open the Contacts app, open the menu and look for Export (on some phones under Fix & manage or Import/Export). Save the file: you get a .vcf file. The menu names differ between phone brands, so your phone may show this differently.

If your contacts are in your Google account, you can also open contacts.google.com on a computer and click Export.

Contacts → Export to a .vcf file
  2. Step 2: On iPhone: export your contacts

Open the Contacts app and tap Lists. Touch and hold All Contacts, tap Export, and save or send the .vcf file. On older iPhones, sign in at icloud.com on a computer, open Contacts, select them and choose Export vCard. Your iPhone may show this differently.

Lists → All Contacts → Export
  3. Step 3: Move the file to your computer

Email the file to yourself, or save it to Google Drive or iCloud Drive and open it on the computer you use for Sendmint. You can also import it straight from your phone's browser.

Email the .vcf file to yourself
  4. Step 4: Keep only people who agreed

WhatsApp allows campaigns only to people who agreed to get messages from your business. Leave out friends, family and suppliers who never asked for offers. Excel (.xlsx) and CSV files with a name and a phone column work too.

Messaging people who didn't agree gets you blocked and reported. Meta can then lower your daily limit. See Increase your daily messaging limit.
Customers who asked to hear from you
  5. Step 5: Import the file in Sendmint

In Sendmint, go to Contacts → Import contacts and choose the file. Check the columns, choose the country code for numbers without one, and tick These people agreed to get WhatsApp messages from my business. Only they can receive campaigns; without it they are saved as “Not asked yet”.

Tick the box only for people who agreed

Common problems

Some numbers have no +91

Choose India (+91) in the import step. Numbers that already have a country code keep it.

Some rows were skipped

Sendmint shows which rows were skipped and why, for example a number that isn't valid. Fix them in the file and import it again: contacts are matched by phone number, so nobody is added twice.

The file is too big

Files can be up to 5 MB and 50,000 rows. Split a bigger file into smaller ones.

How many contacts can I have?

It depends on your plan: Starter 1,000, Growth 10,000, Pro unlimited.

A customer wants to stop getting messages

When a customer replies STOP or taps Stop promotions, Sendmint opts them out automatically and they get no more campaigns.
